Legal Advocacy consists of:
Crisis Intervention & initial evaluation of client’s need for legal advocacy
Handle referrals from other agencies (law enforcement, magistrate judge, etc.)
Advocacy throughout Temporary Protective Order (TPO):
Consultation with client for TPO
Assistance with TPO petitions
Provide transportation as needed for legal appointments & court hearings
Accompany client for presentation of petition to Superior Court Judges
Assistance with filing of TPO with Clerk of Court and Law Enforcement
Accompany clients to legal conferences/consultations and court hearings
Advocate with Georgia Legal Services and Private Attorneys for representation
Provide follow-up advocacy with any problems that arise during the TPO process
Collaborate with Direct Service staff on appropriate services for each client
Maintain confidential files & an appropriate program management system including client’s legal files.
